This year I've gotten more into painting my nails. I have to have a new color every week, without it my nails feel very, very naked. But I also want to experiment with designs! You definitely need serious time to sit down and actually do it, but the outcome will be worth it. But if you have a busy schedule, you'll probably have less time, so stick-on designs are probably more up your alley. Maybe try Sally Hansen Nail Polish Strips, or Sephora Nail Bling.
